Google launches AI Overviews & AI Mode in France: How to optimize your product feeds for conversational search

The era of traditional search is taking a major leap forward. With the rollout of Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode in France, the consumer search journey is evolving. For e-commerce managers and head of acquisition roles, the goal is no longer just appearing in traditional listings, but getting recommended by AI directly within generative answers.
A Global Rollout Transforming French E-Commerce
Already available in the US, the UK, and Germany, AI Overviews and AI Mode are now live in the French market.
While AI Overviews synthesize a direct answer right above search results, AI Mode offers a dedicated conversational tab. Users enter queries up to three times longer and more detailed than before, combining text, voice, and images to refine their choices.
Product Feeds: Data at the Core of Conversational Search and New AI Formats
Faced with natural-language queries like “Which waterproof backpack with a laptop compartment should I choose for a 3-day trek?”, generic keyword strategies reach their limit.
In this natural-language ecosystem, your product feeds serve as the raw material analyzed by algorithms. An incomplete feed lacking detailed attributes directly reduces your chances of appearing in generative responses.
To rank among AI-generated recommendations across Google’s AI-enhanced placements, your product pages must include conversational attributes specifically meant to boost product visibility across Google’s AI environments. Alongside existing attributes, these new additions allow you to specify:
- Use Case & Context (e.g., winter hiking, lightweight travel gear)
- Technical Specs & Materials (e.g., 10,000 mm waterproof rating, recycled polyester)
- Key Features & Benefits (e.g., carry-on size, ergonomic back panel)
While the list of available conversational attributes is likely to expand over time, here are the ones available to date:
- Questions and Answers (question_and_answer): Our top priority attribute due to its high potential for conversational queries. Submitted as pairs of frequently asked questions and answers.
- Document Link (document_link): Redirection links to manuals or guides, such as size, care, assembly, or user guides.
- Related Product (related_product): Item numbers for complementary products (e.g., a case to go with a phone).
- Item Group Title (item_group_title): The overall name of the product line or collection.
- Variant Option (variant_option): Details on variations (size, color), such as the seating capacity of a sofa.
- Popularity Rank (popularity_rank): A numerical indicator of a product’s market success.
At Feed Manager, we have already integrated these attributes for several of our US-based clients.
Alongside these specialized attributes, core attributes naturally remain essential to campaign performance: full title structuring, semantic enrichment of descriptions, product highlights, and more.
